This data can be useful, but the way it is presented is not always in your best interest. *Caution – Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn all Want Your Money!*ĭon’t forget, search engines and social media companies are businesses. This approach is most associated with sales-focused product websites, but it has broader applications. This is also where you might experiment with A:B testing. It tends to be good when you already have defined content strategy likely based on a standard marketing funnel. It utilizes social media stats, newsletter stats, and google analytics data. This is a version of the methods most often employed by marketing agencies. The third method is something I call conversion evaluation. This approach is especially useful when your website’s target audience is small, your audience members are well-known, or your website’s purpose is narrowly defined. While these methods are most often used during the website design process, they are also incredibly useful in providing ongoing formative feedback. The second method is something I call user experience evaluation.Īs the name implies, this method leverages evaluation approaches commonly used during a user experience design process. By looking outside of your own site you greatly expand the learning potential. Because of that we can leverage data from comparison sites in a way that a Google Analytics based approach cannot. The biggest benefits to using this approach is that data can be accessed without the support of the webhost. This method utilizes datasets and indicators often used for search engine optimization. The first method is something I call external analytics. Method 2: User Experience Evaluation (UX Evaluation). So what are they, and what are the main differences? Each one has its place and ultimately you might want to mix together two (or potentially all three). So I’m going to take you through three different methods. Next, what size audience are you trying to serve with your website? Are you trying to reach millions or just a handful of people? If your primary audience is small (say under 500 people) and known (you already have their emails), then you don’t need to worry all that much about showing up on Google. What type of person is in your primary audience? What type of person is in your secondary audience? Some people are clearly going to be more important than others. And there are a lot of different facets.Ĭhances are, you are trying to reach more than just one type of person. What would make your website successful? Who are you trying to serve? So before you evaluate, start by being clear on your outcomes. The website in each scenario is going to support your mission in different ways. Maybe you sell a software product, offer photography services, or fundraise for a regional non-profit. The purpose of the website is to provide information on how families can access your services. Perhaps you support a non-profit that works with families in need of after school care. It also might be the way potential clients learn that you exist. Your website is not your business, it’s just the way potential clients get to know you and your services. Your goal is to find new clients and keep your current clients happy. Maybe you run a small consultancy and work for clients. Most of the time a website is only one piece in a larger puzzle. So before you move forward with any evaluation method you should be able to answer a couple of basic questions about the website’s purpose. Before you evaluate, understanding your website’s purpose.īefore you evaluate, understanding your website’s purpose. But my goal in writing this post was to lay out a practical strategy for organizations with websites that are not designed to pull in dollars but to serve other purposes. These methods will work whether your goals are for-profit, not-for-profit, or a mix of the two. An evaluation is going to help us see if we are on the right track, and specifically, how we might be able to improve our website or digital strategy. Our goal here is to use the web to actually accomplish something. And ultimately, you will probably want to mix these methods.īut website evaluation doesn’t need to be overly complex. The specific method(s) you choose will depend a lot on your evaluation goals. In this guide I am going to walk you through a few methods you can use to evaluate a website. Is your website really accomplishing anything? Or does it just look the part?

The free version offers the entire base package, but users need to purchase other add-ons a la carte or sign up for a monthly subscription plan. A number of effects are available, but Facetune employs something of an unusual in app purchase model. Really messing with the filters and sliders allow you to turn your photo into something indistinguishable and inhuman, but a few tweaks here and there can provide you with a touch-up that looks realistic. The thing about Facetune is that it offers you a range of tools, but sometimes the simpler works better. Whether that means softening the skin lightness or smoothing out some eye shadow, it works, and it works well. This facial identification allows you to zero in on specific components of your face and apply narrow effects to those components. This is undoubtedly the smartest facial recognition on the consumer market. The really impressive work comes in the form of Facetune's AI technology. Through the use of filters and sliders that overlay on your camera's screen, you can pre-edit rather than post-edit, but that's a feature already available in apps like Snapchat. The former allows you to get a feel for what your photo will look like before you even taking it, giving you options to soften and touch up your photos before you even snap them. There are plenty of photo adjustment apps on the market, but Facetune pulls ahead of the crowd with its combination of both augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Facetune 2 builds on those strong fundamentals with new features that are iterative but bordering on the revolutionary, and without ruining the ease of use that made the original Facetune such a great mobile tool. It worked well by offering automated adjustments combined with the ability to tweak those alterations yourself through the use of comprehensive sliders. From skin smoothing to teeth whitening to fixes for the dreaded red eye, Facetune allowed you to get a prettier looking selfie without having to worry about lighting when taking the shot and without having to worry about learning new photo editing skills. The focus was on selfie photos, and the features were designed to match. The original Facetune was a handy app that allowed eminently easy touch-up work on any photos. Facetune is available for mobile devices, and it automates much of the editing process through the use of smart technology that reads the elements of your pictures and approximates the effect you're looking for intuitively. In fact, you don't need a dedicated computer at all. Facetune takes that same principle and applies it to photo editing, giving users a full suite of editing tools without needing access to an expensive editing platform like Adobe Photoshop. While they may be demeaned in some circles as a cheap depreciation of artistic value, there's a democratizing effect to the notion that anyone can capture a memory in full without the need for years of training or an expensive tool. Overall Opinion: Whether we like it or not, selfies are here to stay. It gets very uncomfortable to keep playing as he continues to destroy people’s lives wherever he goes, uncaring of anything but his own interests. To play as Rufus is to pretend you’re a sociopath. Rufus is as he’s always been, a completely unforgivable and unlikeable monster. Your audience will go “meh.” At least I did. You should’ve stayed dead!Īlso, if you have a character sacrifice himself at the end of the previous game, bringing them back completely invalidates the sacrifice and the emotional investment the audience has in him, so when he makes the same choice again, it has no impact, no soul. The new characters coming into the game have the barest of characterisations, once again a collection of stereotypes and bland mannequins whose only purpose is to be Rufus’ victims. There are no new lessons to learn, no growth left. The last sequence, which includes an escape from a Pink elephant (won’t spoil that one), is appallingly bad.īut perhaps, Deponia Doomsday’s worst sin is that the plot is pointless, as it doesn’t lead the characters anywhere new. The first time this happens, it’s infuriating, and it doesn’t get any better. And this means watching the same cutscenes, the same conversations, picking items all over again and then trying to figure out the solution. It’s made even worse by the fact that the game plays out as a Groundhog Day scenario, where days and sequences repeat without end until you find the right actions to move ahead. Instead, we have a time travel story, with multiple timelines and paradoxes that don’t make much sense at the start and just become progressively more convoluted. Was this before Deponia 1 or did that game even happen? The button mashing…god…Īt first, I groaned at the “everything was a dream” approach, as I believed they were copping out of the past three games by sweeping it all under the rug. But the house he wakes up at isn’t he one we knew during Deponia 1, nor does the town look even remotely as it did back then, making me confused about what point in time he was in. Then comes Deponia Doomsday and we once again control Rufus, but now waking up from what he thinks is a very convoluted nightmare. It was a moment of selflessness for a character that is otherwise a complete monster, using people as playthings and tools to get what he wants. But no, there a new entry in the series and its name is quite fitting: Deponia Doomsday.Īt the end of Goodbye Deponia, Rufus sacrifices himself so that Goal and Cletus could make it to Elysium and convince the high council that there were people living on the surface, cancelling the plan to use thermonuclear explosives to destroy the planet and propel their city into space. You thought Deponia had ended, right? You said Goodbye to it, me too. Tip number 3 – Automate your boolean string You will notice that in this situation, you will get results including keywords such as “development”, “developing”, “engineer” “programmer”, and so on. Instead of including various versions of this keyword, it’s enough if you enter the word “developer” (without quotation marks). When using OR, you are giving priorities to certain keywords, and making it impossible for the search engine to suggest alternative words that might be useful. Google algorithm was created in a way to present you with an enriched list of search results. Recently, there have been many articles talking about saying no to “OR” operator in Google. A simple solution here would be to take advantage of Google’s ability to find related keywords. It means, any excessive keywords will be excluded from your search, and you won’t see the results connected to them. One thing you need to consider while searching on Google is that there’s a limit of 32 words only. Site: nl./in/ (“full stack” OR fullstack OR “full-stack”) AND (Amsterdam OR Randstad) This will look for profiles only within profiles within a specific country, in this case, the Netherlands.Įxample of finding a full stack developer in the area of Amsterdam: Bonus: narrow the search by specifying the country in the LinkedIn URL, e.g.Follow up with the keywords to refine your search. To do this type of search, follow these steps: In this case, be sure to use the command “site:”. This part comes in handy when you don’t have a recruiter seat on Linkedin, but you’d like to create a more complex search to narrow down your results. It’s extremely useful to know how to formulate your search to look through specific websites/ databases. These are methods that help me find quality candidates in no time. Now that you know the basics of X-Ray search, let me share with you my five tips and tricks that will make building your Boolean string easier. If you want to step up your game, download this great cheat sheet that our talent hacker, Paloma did: “chief * officer” when looking for a candidate who holds a C-level position.įrom my experience, those six operators and modifiers are the most important for beginners, and will soon become your best friends while sourcing. You can also include it in the middle of a phrase to fill in the gaps, e.g. You can use it at the end of a keyword you’re looking for to expand your search with similar terms (doesn’t work on Google though). Asterisk * – this is a “wild card” modifier.Quotations “” – you need quotations to look for the exact phrase, only used for more than one word.Brackets () – makes it easy to give priority to a search and segregate it in groups.NOT – enables you to exclude keywords that you don’t want to see in your search results (replaced with “-” in Google search).īoolean modifiers can help you find more quality results, by expanding and refining your search.OR – helps you get results that have either one of the keywords entered.AND – lets you find 2 keywords at the same time on one page.Who else has been craving ramen during the lockdown?īoolean operators are short words used to connect or exclude certain search terms. I’ve even found myself looking for a takeaway the other day. The most common use of Boolean search for me is to find CVs and Linkedin profiles, but it honestly helps you find anything you need. It allows you to translate your hiring manager’s requirements to a limited search that brings up relevant candidates. To put it simply, it’s a process that can help you search through different databases. If the terms “Boolean search” or “X-Ray search” are entirely new to you, you are exactly where I was a year ago. What is a Boolean search and search modifiers? Hopefully, they will help you out whether you are a beginner, or a person looking to refresh their knowledge. In this post, I will share with you 5 tips that helped me source for excellent candidates. Since then, I have picked up some useful methods that are making my searches faster and more accurate. Saying it’s been helpful would be an understatement. I began sourcing with Boolean very recently when starting my job as a Recruiter at LevelUp Ventures. Let me ask you this: since you’ve learned about Boolean, how often have you gone back to it to sharpen your skills? It’s our holy grail for finding the right talent and narrowing down a list of thousands of candidates to our hiring manager’s requirements. If you are a recruiter, you probably know what a Boolean search is. To save on shower water, we have a low flow head. This actually saves water and energy, because a nasty load doesn’t get washed a second time, etc. Same with the dryer… I have door sensors on both units to keep the alerts coming to stop smelly / wrinkled clothes. Now power monitoring is SUPER useful… I don’t care how much the washer uses, but I have an alert that notifies the house when the cycle is complete. Knowing that the lawn got 571 gallons of water this month isn’t useful!! Measuring the amount you water your lawn isn’t the indicator - the grass is… you then know it’s super green so you cut the minutes of watering. Even the month of Feb will be 10% lower just because of the fewer days. A guest staying over, random car washes, not watering your yard because it rained…. water at night when it is coolest (less evap), consider a split phase watering schedule where you give half the water 30minutes apart - and most important, don't water the concrete!! For showers, move to a lower flow shower head and reduce the minutes in the shower.Īm I just missing something that others are seeing/wanting?īut a meter isn’t a leak detector…. The biggest uses will be the lawn sprinkler and shower. measure the water won't change what you use!! (This will also save you electricity since a HE washer will leave the clothes dryer, giving less work for your dryer to do!!) you can just look them up and see where you fall on the scale!! If you have a 20year old top load washer that isn't "HE" (high efficiency) then go replace it. All you can do is go buy more water efficient devices. You're going to wash your hands, you're going to wash your clothes, you're going to drink water, you're going to flush the toilet, you're going to run the dishwasher, you're going to let the icemaker run, etc. I've tried asking a few times and am looking to understand what good measuring the water would do? This question gets asked a few times a week between this sub and smarthome. I tried to do an egg wash to brush on them but that didn't work so well either. I tried waiting for the cookies to cool to add powdered sugar but it just fell off. My oven can run really hot so I cooked them for 6 minutes. I rolled the dough out and used a Wilton brand Linzer Cutter which was extremely helpful but probably not necessary. When the dough got too sticky I returned that chunk to the fridge and used another. I chilled the dough for an hour and took out chunks at a time to work with. Next time I'll keep it sticky and try to see if chilling for longer would solve the problem. I also used an extra 1/4 cup of flour because the dough seemed too sticky but I think the 1/4 extra made the end texture not as perfect as I would have liked. I used salted butter instead of margarine and whole wheat flour. I adjusted the ingredients based on what I had available in my kitchen. Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar before serving. This was my first attempt at this kind of cooking and I'm fairly new to baking in general but I think they came out really well. Spread half of the cookies with about 1/2 tsp of jam and sandwich together with another cookie. While cookies are cooling, combine the jam and teaspoon of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. Repeat with the second sheet of dough, and also roll the scraps out between two sheets of wax paper and repeat. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until lightly golden. Place cutout cookies on the cookie sheet, leaving space in between cookies. Set the scraps aside, you can combine them with the scraps from the second sheet of dough. If you want a hole in the top cookie so you can see the jam inside, use a small cookie cutter to cut a small shape out of the center of half of the cookies. Using a 2-inch round (or scalloped) cookie cutter, cut out, cut out as many cookies as possible. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or silpats. If you don’t want to bake right away, you can keep the dough refrigerated for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 2 months.Īfter dough is firm, preheat oven to 375✯ and place rack in center of oven. Place both pieces of wrapped dough on a cookie sheet and refrigerate for about 2 hours, or freeze for about 45 minutes, or until firm. Place each disk between two sheets of wax paper or plastic wrap, and with a rolling pin roll out until the dough is 1/4 inch thick. On low speed, add the nut and flour mixture and beat only until just combined.ĭivide the dough into two halves, and shape each half into a disk. Add the egg mixture and beat until combined. In an electric mixer, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. In a small bowl, lightly beat together the egg and water. In a medium bowl, whisk together the ground nuts, flour, cinnamon, salt, and cloves. ½ Cup Raspberry Jam plus 1 Teaspoon Water My suggestion, if you’re going to deviate from the recipe-go a smidge thinner and reduce the baking time.ĭid I care much? Nah…when a cookie is this tasty, very little matters.Īnd as I wipe the cookie crumbs away from my mouth, I wonder….How many other Holiday treats can this gal cram in before the holidays end? The recipe called for me to roll the dough to a ¼ inch thickness and I may have gone a smidge thicker.īut still, the cookie sammy was too thick once all was said and done. What could have I done better? Well, I won’t lie. The richness from the cookies were “cut” by the tart raspberry jam I used to sandwich these goodies. The ending results yielded a rich and buttery cookie that had a lovely “nutty” flavor profile due to the almond meal I used. But I was inspired by the recent wave of Linzer Cookies postings in the blogosphere and decided to try my hand at the wonderful Dorie Greenspan’s take on these delectable bites. How did these buttery delights converge as a holiday cookie staple? The world may never know. These buttery cookies first originated in Austria and were derived from the Linzertorte-which is essentially a tart filled with preserves. Gingerbreads, a smattering of butter cookies, an array of sugar cookies, perhaps a few “American” macaroons….and of course, Linzer Cookies. I have a very specific picture in my head when I think of a Holiday Cookie Platter. We should also caution you that this is a hand climber which is much more difficult to use than a sit down, stand up climber like the Summit climber tree stands. The hand climber is the seat and it is very small and not very comfortable. The Hand Climber combo has a generous platform size of 19.5 inches wide by 30" deep and it is made out of cast aluminum. The problem that we have found with the lightest climbing tree stands is that they tend to be very small, which is a huge factor in comfort. It weighs in at 17.5 pounds and has a 300 pound weight capacity. The Lone Wolf Hand Climber Combo is not the lightest climber tree stand, but it is a great option that is full featured and a good size. 6-point Fall Arrest System (tested to meet industry standards).Backpack straps, bungee strap and stabilizing straps included.Super quiet rubber traction belts for climbing.2-panel, contoured foam seat pad and backrest. If you are a big guy that is looking for a lightweight climber tree stand that is easy to move around and you are willing to sacrifice a little comfort, then you should check out the XOP Ambush Evolution. It also packs down to a super thin profile for transporting. The seat is nice, but it is not as comfortable as the Summit. It weighs in at only 18 pounds and has a 350 pound weight limit. Not only did they replicate the Lone Wolf Sit And Climb, but hey improved on it as well, by making it lighter and quieter. The XOP Ambush Evolution replaced the Lone Wolf Sit and Climb when the original founder of Lone Wolf founded the XOP brand. Super comfortable suspended foam-padded seat with backrest.Umbilical Cord for connecting upper and lower pieces.Let's take a look at some of the features. The best way to increase your time on stand is to hunt out of the most comfortable tree stand that you can find. When you are trying to outsmart that buck, time on stand is one of the main factors in your success. You would think that it would be a good selection for big guys and it is, but we have a better choice for big guys below. The Goliath also carries a 350 pound weight limit as compared to 300 pounds for the Viper. The Seat frame size is wider than the Viper at 24.5 inches wide compared to 22.5 inches wide on the Viper. The platform frame measures 20 inches by 36 inches, which is the same size as the Viper. It is slightly heavier at 21 pounds and the larger frame is a little more difficult to backpack long distances, but if you are going to sit all day, this would be our choice. Keep in mind that the bigger size, even though it is the most comfortable, comes with trade offs. Redefining what a tree stand should be: Huge 30 x 19 1/2″ one-piece cast aluminum platform Top dimension: 17 1/4″ wide Comfortable 2-panel, contoured foam seat pad Bow holder accommodates most parallel limb bows Pivoting “Sit & Climb” bar Backpack straps, 1 bungee strap and stabilizing straps included Distinctive 3-D camo platform design Fits trees 6″-19″ in diameter 350-pound weight rating Just 20 pounds Includes TMA approved 6-pt Fall Arrest System. The Summit Goliath is very similar to the Viper except that it is slightly bigger, making it the most comfortable climbing tree stand on the market. You’ll soon learn why the Sit & Climb Tree Stand is a favorite of both gun and bow hunters. This feature-filled Climber Tree Stand packs down to a slim 4″ profile. Features a full-size 30 x 19 1/2″ platform. The 2-panel contoured foam seat pad makes that all-day sit a cinch. The pivoting “Sit & Climb” bar provides easy climbing. And without sacrificing an ounce of performance. Lone Wolf “Sit & Climb” Combo II Climbing Tree Stand. But we really enjoyed the traction on offer here with our feet barely slipping when things got wet underfoot. We'd advise going for one of the best winter golf shoes if you're planning on playing through harsher conditions. We tested them on a particularly rainy day and we got some good traction from the many small rubber lugs on the bottom of the shoe. Akin to many of the best waterproof golf shoes, these sneakers are fully waterproof and will keep your feet warm and dry in some of the most adverse conditions, too, and they were very easy to wipe clean if you did manage to get them mucky. Buy them and you'll get a lot of use out of them. We actually wore them plenty of times away from the course, from doing the food shop to going to the pub, and that was the beauty of these shoes. We felt pretty stable in damp conditions and that also adds to the versatility of the shoe, which we felt could be worn in almost any situation, from the course to the shops.Ī seriously classy looking sneaker-like golf shoe that offers bags of versatility both on and off the golf course, the Cole Haan GrandPro AM shoe is a real winner in terms of style and we certainly felt comfortable wearing these away from the golf course. It is extremely breathable and offers up plenty of ventilation thanks to the mesh covering around the upper, which is water-resistant and easy to clean.Īkin to many of the best spikeless golf shoes out there, the Air Max 270 delivers plenty of traction on the turf thanks to the rubber ridges and bumps on the sole of the shoe. It does fit fairly snug so you may want to order a size up if you want a non-restrictive fit. The shoe certainly appeals to a younger audience, but there is no mistaking that it is great for those looking for more comfort too. It comes in three different colorways with each delivering a clean and crisp aesthetic, that looks great paired up with some of the best golf trousers. Perhaps one of the best golf sneakers in the game, the Air Max 270 G shoe is a sporty and stylish option that can be worn both on and off the course. Snug fit, ordering a half-size up is recommended Of course, there is nothing wrong with preferring a traditional look, but more and more brands are catering for a wide array of styles and we are in full support. Check out some of our picks for the best golf sneakers below. They also add a relaxing vibe to a game that has been guilty of being stuffy and exclusive in the past. These shoes are designed to be worn on and off the course and offer as much comfort and style off the course as they do on it. As versatile as they come, these offer golfers sneaker-like looks and feel with the performance of the best golf shoes. Here, however, we will be focusing on the rise of the golf sneaker. No matter what aspect of performance you value above all else, there will be something out there that fits the bill.
